The play now link is the webclient...
The server was probably offline when you tried it: should be back on in about 45mins from now if not before then..

Oddly I can't get on as well I know I downloaded everything correctly because I was playing 2days ago but now when I know the servers on because the "players online" link works but when i click the play now! tab it doesn't work anymore..I'm soo confused

its because the server has updated, some times it doesn't connect for the first few times...
I've just taken 5 or 6 attempts to connect on the client while it downloaded the new updates, but i've got on now

Urm the play now button is the webclient...
If you read what it says on the page you are redirected to it gives you information on how to play via the webclient, there is a client however I cannot find the download link for it at the moment I'll get back to you when I can.
